Friday Night Movies: Back To The Future
Jump into the DeLorean for some Friday night movie magic.

It had to be done. For those growing up in the 90s and 00s it seems we couldn’t go more than a month without Ten showing the Back To The Future movies on consecutive Friday nights. So it wouldn’t be a ‘Friday Night Movies‘ series without having our favourite time travel trilogy.
Directed by Robert Zemeckis and released in 1985, this series is a blend of science fiction, adventure, and comedy that has captivated audiences across generations — offering a perfect mix of heartwarming storytelling, cutting-edge effects (for its time), and unforgettable characters.
So jump into the DeLorean for some Friday night movie magic.
Plot Through Time
The saga begins with Back to the Future (1985) where teenager Marty McFly accidentally travels back in time to 1955 in a DeLorean car converted into a time machine by the eccentric scientist Doc Brown. Marty meets his future parents in high school and accidentally attracts his mother’s romantic interest. Marty must repair the damage to history by making his parents-to-be fall in love, and with the help of a younger Doc, find a way back to the future of 1985.
Now back in 1985, Back to the Future Part II (1989) see Marty and Doc Brown travel to 2015 to prevent Marty’s future son from making a decision that could ruin the family’s reputation. However, their intervention leads to a drastically altered 1985 and necessitates a return to 1955 to restore the timeline.
The trilogy concludes with Back to the Future Part III (1990) as Marty travels way back in time to 1885 to save Doc’s life, who has become a blacksmith in the Old West. Marty must deal with the challenges of the Wild West, find a way to save Doc, and return to 1985 without altering history or endangering their futures.
Cast
Michael J. Fox’s portrayal of Marty McFly and Christopher Lloyd’s Doc Brown became iconic, embodying the spirit of adventure and the depth of friendship. The supporting cast, including Lea Thompson as Marty’s mother and Thomas F. Wilson as Biff Tannen, added richness and humour to this temporal tapestry.
Reviews
The trilogy has enjoyed enduring popularity and critical acclaim throughout time. “Back to the Future” dazzles with high scores on Rotten Tomatoes with 94% Audience Score and 8.5/10 on IMDb from over 1,000,000 reviews, celebrated for its ingenious plot and charismatic performances. The sequels, while facing the daunting task of living up to the original, have maintained strong ratings themselves, with fans and critics praising their creative storytelling and the expansion of the original’s themes.
But let’s be honest, nothing beats the original.

Fun Fact
A fun fact about the series: The idea for the film came from Director Robert Zemeckis wondering if he would have been friends with his father if they went to school together. Also, the DeLorean was chosen for its futuristic look, which played perfectly into the film’s time-travel theme.
